Before his retirement from military service, the team at MilTRAC considered Mark Overberg as one of the top voices for helping soldiers and other military professionals with their departure from military service.
After 39 years as an Army officer and director of Army Retirement Services, Mark traveled the world to discuss retirement issues with military professionals. In a recent LinkedIn post, he announced his retirement.
When we started this website, Mark gave us guidance and advice. He got our vision of helping veterans find the resources they need for transition. Now, if you are a Soldier, Marine, Sailor or Airman ,the information that he provided in his last duty was such that it was always on point.
As a tribute to Mark and his work, we are sharing his 36 month checklist in the hopes that you will not only use it but provide it to others in transition.

Most military professionals we have met rarely think about their next chapter of their lives, so we encourage you to read through all of this section. One of the things we like about this info is the ability to research the Veterans Group Life Insurance as well as changing your Serviceman’s Group Life Insurance.

As someone reads through this section, this section details the need to research changes in one’s TriCare retirement options. As well, there is a focus on adding LinkedIn contacts. Not sure on the way to add LinkedIn connections check out two short YouTube videos on this topic. (Video #1: )
We know from our experience working with veterans in transition that the last year seems to go by very quickly. In this checklist, we want to emphasize the need to get a retirement physical. This is where you want to document all ailments that resulted from your military duties.
One of the saddest things we have seen are veterans who overlook the 180-day requirement to complete your VA application for disability. In the graphic below is the form to get this started. We recommend using an accredited veterans service officer to review it.
Note: The Military Transition Roundtable welcomes you to join us for our interactive meetings held on Tuesdays and Thursday. Please contact us if you want to join this interactive program.
