One of the things the staff at MilTRAC hears a lot is the loss of their personal tribe after their retirement.

As the American Legion’s 20th District Public Affairs officer, I like to volunteer my time and talent to the posts who live near me in south Texas.

During that time, I got to meet the amazing Elizabeth Hartman.  Liz is active in the American Legion as a district commander in North Carolina.  Yet, she’s also an advocate for the VFW.

To me, joining an organization like the Legion and the VFW make a lot of sense.   (Note:  I’m an honorary member of VFW Post 8541, where I have done some volunteer work as well as some social activities.)  My participation in both organizations reconnect me to my military brothers and their respective tribes.
