With reports that three billion records with social security numbers were stolen, what can you do to protect yourself from identity theft?

With news reports that hackers had acquired new three billion records with Social Security numbers, government agencies are making outreach to help everyone protect their data. 

Identity theft risks will increase in the months ahead. 

The Federal Trade Commission has released a short video on the five steps every veteran, their families and others should take to mitigate the potential risk. 

VA has confirmed that there is no malicious activity or irregularities in our systems, but you may have been impacted from non-VA systems,” said retired Army Cpmmand Sergeant Major E.G. Mais. “Some Veterans will receive letters from Change Healthcare with more information.”
