Organizers for the Navy All-American Bowl are looking for volunteers to assist the logistics and support to host the bevy of high school football players who will take part in the Jan.10 football contest.
“Each year, we rely on a large volunteer workforce to support the Navy All-American Bowl Week operations, including player and family support, event logistics, registration, transportation assistance, and general event operations,” said Abbey McKenna, the event’s host and event manager.
McKenna said over 200 volunteers are needed for the event. She said there are three specific ways San Antonio residents can help the event.
Volunteers are needed Jan. 5 to help with the arrival of 100 players and 16 coaches Jan. 5. More than 600 high school prep football stars will arrive Jan. 8 for the combine registration to participate in pre-game festivities, The combine will test them for their size and their ability to perform routine football drills Jan. 9.
There is also a need for a few player hosts.
“Our host city committee members will communicate with their assigned All-American Player and their family throughout December to answer questions regarding their travel to San Antonio and provide a hospitable environment for the Player and his family leading up to the event,” McKenna said.
Interested volunteers are asked to register at this link, she added. “This includes a background check for those not on active duty or serving in the military reserve,” she said. Volunteers must register Jan.1 so that the organizers can review their application.
McKenna can be reached at 210-204-2275 or via email at [email protected].
