How veterans can make great election officers

By Mark Overberg

After serving as an election officer during four elections, I’ve gotten to know many people who volunteer for this duty.

What do YOU think makes a good election officer?

Tell me below if you have seen these attributes or other ones.

➡️ Dedicated to upholding the law
➡️ Studies to remain current on state voting procedures and equipment
➡️ Friendly and communicative with voters
➡️ Enjoys and celebrates first time voters and kids who accompany their parents to vote
➡️ Concerned for the common good and fair elections
➡️ Apolitical on election day
➡️ Team players and good coworkers
➡️ Hardworking: swears an oath at 5:00 AM on election day and then carries it out over the next 16 hours
➡️ Selfless: Election officers are paid a small stipend, but many volunteer to work for free

Military veterans can play a crucial role in the electoral process by serving as election judges.
